~ THE WHY ~
In a Western culture that has long disregarded the importance of ritual and vulnerability, we crave an alternative to the individualistic, hushed work of modern self-healing. Our biology craves connection, and thrives in ritual.
The history of women’s circles can be traced back to the “red tent” traditions of the ancient Middle East & Mediterranean cultures; to the pagan cultures whose women gathered in ceremony and ritual to worship their goddesses; to Africa, where women still gather as an integral part of everyday life to impart cultural and spiritual knowledge; and of course to the First Nations people of Australia, to whom “women’s business” continues to be a means of connecting to culture and sacred knowledge.
The women Yogis were gifted story-tellers and charged with passing on the wisdom and importance of Yoga’s philosophy and practices.
This is not to be trivialised. This is our rebellion against polarisation & disconnection. This is how we Remember.
We need community healing, in a safe container, where voices are heard without interjection. Where open-hearted and compassionate women gather together to move, to share, and to honour the perspective of living as a woman in the world we’re faced with.
~ ABOUT ME ~
I’m a local mother, Yoga teacher, writer & facilitator. I’ve both attended and hosted circles, and have found them deeply moving and inspiring — particularly at times of my life where I needed clarity and sisterhood (sometimes without realising it)
It feels to me that our world needs clarity and sisterhood more than ever; from the inner world, to the outer world in which we live. We need healthy ways of integrating ritual into our lives, the way indigenous cultures have always done. In additional, Yoga is a holistic practice of intentional living, rich with devotion and reverence.
I named this offering Caim, as I have Irish ancestry that I try to honour and connect to any way I can. My Celtic ancestors used circle to worship, to honour, and to listen deeply. Whilst many of Western peoples have lost our indigenous connections, I feel very strongly that it is possible (and necessary) to Remember our lineages and the old ways. The importance of decolonising and re-indigenising sits very close to my heart, and I commit the ongoing work towards allyship.
