Tuning in to Students -Teacher Professional Learning Seminar
About
Developed from the evidence-based Tuning in to Kids® and Tuning in to Teens® frameworks at the University of Melbourne, Tuning in to Students is an initiative designed to help teachers recognise, understand, and respond constructively to students’ emotions, fostering greater connectedness and psychological safety.By learning the skills of Emotion Coaching, teachers can turn emotional moments into opportunities for connection, regulation, and growth, supporting overall classroom wellbeing.
Program Goals
Through interactive workshops, teachers learn to:
• Increase self-awareness and emotion regulation skills
• Recognise and respond effectively to students’ emotions
• Use Emotion Coaching conversations to guide emotional learning
• Build emotionally safe, respectful, and engaged classrooms
• Foster an environment where emotions are seen as part of learning—not disruptions to it
• Supporting students experiencing stress and anxiety
• Regulation strategies for managing anxiety
• Understanding and managing anger (teachers and students)
• Responding to anger using Emotion Coaching
• Conflict management and collaborative problem-solving strategies
The ticket cost includes:
* Full day in person seminar (Catering provided for the day)

Founded and facilitated by Educational and Developmental Psychologist, Jessica Schembri, and Clinical Registrar Psychologist and Teacher, Emma Mahoney, who both have over 15 years experience working in schools.
Together, Jessica and Emma aim to blend psychology and education to empower teachers and parents.
