Sleep Training 2026 - for clinicians, through an OT lens
About
Sleep matters! Our clients' sleep affects every aspect of their health, wellbeing and participation. It affects every aspect of our clinical practice. There's a lot we can do, there's a lot to know.Sue McCabe presents this course with an OT lens, bringing 45+ years of experience as an occupational therapist in hospital, community paediatrics, specialist equipment and research settings. It is relevant to OTs and other allied health clinicians who work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
In each session we will cover current sleep & circadian science with reference to the ICF (International Classification for Functioning, Disability and Health) to consider the interactions of body structures & functions, activities and environments for all aspects of the rhythms of sleep and wake functions. We will share case stories and discussion for practical application to all our clinical groups (all ages, all conditions, all settings).
All sessions will be online (live and interactive) and recorded for participants to access for 6 months following this series. There will be handouts with each session, with resources and fact sheets for clinicians to adapt and use to suit their own clinical settings. Questions & discussion will be encouraged throughout the course, and participants can join our information-sharing SleepLinks group for ongoing knowledge sharing.
We will follow the SleepLinks Sleep Comfort Map (see www.sleeplinks.com.au) as a guide for understanding the current evidence around sleep and circadian health and to consider options for individualised assessment and interventions.
There will be 9 x 3-hour sessions. The live sessions will be on Friday mornings (AWST), 9.30 - 12.30. Session 7 is offered as an in-person session for hands-on equipment exploration, with the option to participate online, and to access recordings.
