Get ready for an action-packed day at URBNSURF Melbourne, combining surfing, skill development, and water safety in a controlled and supportive environment.This full-day experience is delivered by qualified URBNSURF instructors and supported by Scouts Victoria staff. Participants will build confidence in the water, develop practical surf skills, and gain essential knowledge to stay safe in aquatic environments.
Whether you are trying surfing for the first time or looking to improve your technique, there is a program suited to your ability.
PROGRAM OPTIONS:
Beginner Learn to Surf and Water Safety (Ages 8+)
This program is designed for beginners or those who have only tried surfing once or twice. Participants will learn in gentle, rolling white-water waves in The Bays. You will learn how to paddle, stand, and ride waves, while developing confidence in a safe and shallow environment. The session focuses on building foundational skills and comfort in the water.
This program supports progression through:
• OAS Aquatics Stages 1–3
• OAS Surfing Stage 4
Limited tickets are available for participants aged 8–9.
Beginner Progressive Surf and Water Safety (Ages 10+)
This program is designed for participants who have previously completed a URBNSURF Learn to Surf session and are confident in basic skills.
Participants must be able to paddle independently, stand up consistently, ride the length of a wave, and safely manage their board in whitewater. The session focuses on developing technique, control, and confidence, including riding the edge of unbroken waves and navigating basic surf conditions.
This program supports progression through:
• OAS Surfing Stage 5 and above

• Basic rescues and lifesaving techniques
• Wade, tread water, and swim to safety

• Land-based demonstrations and technique development
• Equipment use and lagoon safety
• In-water coaching with qualified instructors
• Board control and independent wave riding
• Safe dismount techniques
• Group awareness and surf etiquette
EVENT INFORMATION
• Drop off: 9:30am
• Pick up: 2:30pm
• Ages: 8–18, all genders
• Open to all Scouts, participants are encouraged to bring a friend
• $125 per participant
WHAT TO BRING
• Lunch, snacks, and water bottle
• SunSmart bathers, towel, sunscreen, and hat
Wetsuits and surfboards are provided by URBNSURF as part of your ticket.
This is a fully supervised event. Parents are welcome to remain on site and watch from the café area, however access to the wave pool and change rooms is restricted to participants and staff.
