Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care (BASIC) Course
The BASIC Assessment and Support in Intensive Care course was initiated by a group of Intensive Care Specialists working in Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. BASIC is a course designed to teach aspects of acute assessment and treating critically ill patients.
The two day course consists of practical, hands-on stations and didactic lectures . It includes modules on ABG interpretation, metabolic problems, resuscitation as well as the following key topics:
Mechanical ventilation
Haemodynamic monitoring
Management of respiratory failure
Management of shock
Management of severe trauma
Included: Course registration, a hard copy of the BASIC textbook, morning tea & beverages, lunch, afternoon tea. Audience: This course is for doctors (PGY-2 and above) who have completed or are planning to complete a critical care rotation in intensive care, emergency care, and/or anaesthetics as residents.
Please note that participants are expected to have read the course manual and completed the online pretest prior to attending the course.
Registration Fees will be refunded in full if Course Director & Course Coordinator are notified in writing 30 days prior to the course start date. After that, refunds are at Course Directors discretion & a place on a future BASIC course may be offered instead. Wait list candidates will be accepted upon notification.
