King Edward Memorial Hospital offer this free* 2.5 hour workshop to pregnant people and their support person who are birthing under the Women's and Newborn Services (King Edward Memorial Hospital, Osborne Park Hospital, Family Birth Centre or MGP). 

The class is run IN-PERSON on-site at KEMH with an experienced clinical midwife in a small group setting.

Please note: To save you time and avoid double-booking, please be aware that the same content listed below is covered in our IN-PERSON and ONLINE 'Preparing for Birth and Baby Course', as well as our online equivalent of 'The Fourth Trimester'. 

Please DO NOT book both classes as they will be duplicate sessions.

Giving birth and becoming a parent is a transformative experience, and preparing for postpartum is a fantastic way to provide the smoothest transition into new journey into the unknown. The postpartum period encompasses many aspects such as healing for the birthing woman, practical aspects about caring for a child and the impact on your daily life, relationship changes and matrescence - the radical transformation the birthing woman experiences which involves body, mind and hormonal changes.  Having an understanding of this process can hugely benefit your preparation into parenthood, and allow you to further build your knowledge about what you and your family may require postpartum. 

This session covers:

  • Up-to-date postpartum care and infant care information

  • Matrescence (Mind, body and soul transitions)

  • Postpartum body changes and healing awareness

  • Positive relationships postpartum

  • The role of each parent

  • The role of support services and where to find help after baby is born

 

ELIGIBILITY

• Birthing under the Women's and Newborn Services (King Edward Memorial Hospital, Family Birth Centre or Osborne Park Hospital)

RECOMMENDED GESTATION TO BOOK

• We recommend booking this class before 38 weeks. 

LOCATION

This class is held IN-PERSON in our Parent Education Department, between 9:15am and 11:45am, for pregnant people and one support person. If you have a student midwife CCE, please email our department on parented.reception@health.wa.gov.au to enquire about an additional ticket for your student midwife to attend as well if you would like. 

We will provide you with a confirmation email and instructions on how to attend our department a few days prior to the session.

 

TICKET INSTRUCTIONS

• You only need to book 1 ticket - support people do not need to book their own ticket.

• When booking, please use the pregnant person's name and Medical Reference Number (see Image Below)

One 2.5 hour in-person workshop which covers the postpartum period and transition into becoming a parent, taught by experienced and knowledgeable midwives. This session discusses practical aspects of what to expect postpartum for the new parents, as well as support services available. King Edward Memorial Hospital offer this free* class to pregnant people who are birthing through the Women's and Newborn Health Services (KEMH, OPH, FBC, MGP & CMP).
