Originally named the Charlie Napier Hotel and was established by George Evans in 1857 who previously ran the Yorkshire Hotel at Timor. It's placement as the first business in Bealiba determined the placement of the towns main st as other buildings followed. It soon became locally and permanently known as the Evans Hotel and permanent brick construction began in 1864 gradually replacing the original timber building.
George Evans managed the hotel until his death in 1889 after which his widow Phyllis took ownership and his son George held the licence.
A major fire destroyed the rear lodgings in 1919 resulting in the tragic death of the hotel groom Charles Oxley.
